Server Rules
The Rules
These rules protect players outside roleplay and preserve the integrity of what happens inside it. They do not guarantee fairness, safety, or success for your character. Land of the Heartless gives players broad freedom to create conflict, pursue power, and shape the world. Staff intervenes when a player violates another player’s rights or compromises the integrity of the server—not simply because a character loses.
1. PARTICIPATE IN THE SHARED WORLD
Play a character with motives, relationships, interests, and a place in the world.
Your actions should create, continue, or respond to roleplay. You do not need to explain every action to its target, but you must have an in-character purpose and remain available for the consequences.
Logging in solely to cause purposeless disruption is not roleplay.
2. USE ONLY INFORMATION YOUR CHARACTER POSSESSES
Metagaming is prohibited.
Do not use information obtained through streams, Discord, staff access, another character, or an out-of-character conversation unless your current character learned it through roleplay.
Keep the knowledge, relationships, and interests of each character separate.
3. DO NOT MANIPULATE THE GAME
The following are prohibited:
- Modding or using unauthorized software
- Exploiting, duplicating, or abusing bugs
- Abusing mechanical limitations
- Combat logging
- Stream sniping
- Evading consequences by switching characters
- Using staff tools or privileged information for in-character benefit
- Intentionally creating or exploiting desync
- Gaining an unfair mechanical advantage through any means outside roleplay
If you discover an exploit, report it privately through a ticket. Do not demonstrate, distribute, or discuss it unless an administrator asks you to do so within that ticket.
4. RESPECT THE PLAYER OUTSIDE THE CHARACTER
Characters may hate, threaten, rob, betray, arrest, exploit, or kill one another. Players may not harass one another outside roleplay.
Prohibited conduct includes, but is not limited to:
- Out-of-character threats or intimidation
- Racism or discriminatory out-of-character harassment
- Doxxing or sharing private information
- Using roleplay to continue an out-of-character dispute
- Stalking a player across characters or platforms
- Sexual content without the clear consent of everyone involved
- Ignoring clearly communicated out-of-character safety boundaries
- Retaliating against someone for reporting an actual out-of-character violation
Conflict between characters must remain conflict between characters.
5. DO NOT CONTROL ANOTHER PLAYER’S CHARACTER
You control your character. Other players control theirs.
You may attempt to shoot, restrain, threaten, deceive, arrest, rob, or otherwise act against another character. You may not declare that character’s thoughts, emotions, injuries, confession, permanent death, or response and/or reactions.
Use the available mechanics and give other players a reasonable opportunity to perceive and respond when circumstances allow.
Unexpected does not mean forced. Losing does not mean forced.
6. ACCEPT CONSEQUENCES
Do not treat losing as a rule violation.
Through legitimate roleplay, your character may lose money, property, employment, political office, social standing, freedom, power, or a conflict.
Power provides no out-of-character protection. This applies equally to criminals, business owners, politicians, faction leaders, donors, etc.
If you build power through roleplay, other players may dismantle it through roleplay.
7. STAFF AUTHORITY IS STRICTLY OUT OF CHARACTER
Staff powers exist to maintain the server, remove cheaters, address out-of-character misconduct, and protect the integrity of roleplay.
Being a staff member does not grant a character:
- Political authority
- Legal immunity
- Secret knowledge
- Economic advantages
- Protection from opposition
- Protection from criminal consequences
- Protection from losing
Abusing administrative tools or privileged information is one of the most serious violations on this server.
THE STANDARD
Before contacting staff about an event, ask:
“Was this merely unfair to my character, or was there an actual violation against me as a player?”
Unfairness toward your character belongs in roleplay.
An actual violation against you as a player belongs with staff.
